Candidates 2018 / Round 4

Fabiano Caruana

Fabiano Caruana is now in the lead by a half point.  He played the Black side of a Petrof Defense against Vladimir Kramnik.  Admittedly Kramnik made some errors towards the end, but he was at a disadvantage anyway, and bad games often have a way of getting worse.  That was one of two decisive games this round.  The other win was played by Levon Aronian, also with the Black pieces against Sergey Karjakin.  This was a long/hard fight where White was having difficulty justifying his opening Pawn gambit.  The game eventually entered a Rook and Pawn ending where Aronian was more than content to exchange Rooks which would lead to a winning King and Pawn ending.
