Sicilian / Najdorf

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 a6 6. h3

board1

This is getting to be very popular nowadays. Fischer played this early in his career. He figured that if Black could “waste time” with a Rook Pawn then so could White. There is method to this “madness”; White takes away the g4 square (Black took away the b5 square) and White will expand quickly on the Kingside placing the Bishop on the long diagonal with good control over the central d5 coupled with possible threats of kicking the Knight from f6.

e6 7. g4 h6 8. Bg2 Nc6 9. Be3 Be7 10. f4 Nd7 11. O-O Nxd4 12. Qxd4 O-O 13. Qd2 Rb8 14. Ne2 b5 15. Rad1 Qc7 16. f5 Nf6 17. Ng3

board2

This is very well thought out.

Bb7

(17… d5 18. e5 Nd7 ( 18… Qxe5 19. Bf4) 19. f6)

18. Kh1 Rbd8

Now no Bishop skewer from f4 – so .

board3

19. Bxh6 ! !  gxh6 20. Qxh6 d5 21. g5

Here we go.

Qxg3 22. Rd3 Nh5

board4

Desperation.  (22… Qe5 23. gxf6 Bxf6 (23… Qxf6 24. Rg3+) 24. Rf4 Bg7 25. Rg3 Oh my goodness.

23. g6 fxg6 24. fxg6 Rxf1+ 25. Bxf1 Nf6 26. Rxg3 dxe4 27. Be2 e3+ 28. Kg1 Bc5 29. Kf1
