Tata Steel 2018 / Masters / Round 12

 

There were three decisive games in the penultimate round.  There is tight cluster of contenders for top places.  Carlsen and Giri are tied for the lead at 8.5 points.  A half point behind is Mamedyarov.  A half point behind that are Anand and Kramnik.  And – a half point behind that are Karjakin and So.  That is the spread from 8.5 through 7.0 points.  It appears that, baring a catastrophe, there are two, perhaps three, in the running for first place.  The tournament cross table and stands is below.
