World Chess Championship 2018 / Game 5 – Draw

by National Life Master Loal Davis

DRAW

A Wing Gambit to the Sicilian.  But – Almost immediately BOTH players start to “dial back” when another draw is on the horizon.  The impression I get is that both are trying some opening trap/slip in which to catch their opponent.  When that doesn’t pan out, they reconcile themselves to “fighting” in the next game.  Very Disappointing.

  1. Oh for the past glory days of fighting matches. This match is reminiscent of Petrosian-Heubner in 1971 . No wonder chess has no real public cred any more. Snorefests like this have killed interest in this beautiful game. Crickets.
