Format & System
1. Swiss system, 11 rounds.
2.The winner of the FIDE Grand Swiss qualifies for the FIDE Candidates Tournament 2020. If the winner of the FIDE Grand Swiss qualifies to Candidates 2020 via a different qualification path or does not need to qualify, the qualification spot goes to the highest-placed player in the tournament who did not or will not qualify by other means.
Travel and Accommodation
Each of the one hundred twenty (120) invited players receives hotel accommodation (Half-board) for 14 days in a standard room (4star hotel minimum) and a minimum fee towards their travel expenses of: 400 US dollars for each player from the country where the tournament is staged; 700 US dollars for each other player from the continent where the tournament is staged; 1000 US dollars for each player from a different continent.
Playing venue
1. GSC ensures the playing hall and its environs meet the requirements of the FIDE Regulations for the organization of TopLevel Tournaments (FIDE Handbook, C.01).
2. The playing venue shall be decorated with the FIDE flag, IOC flag, and the flag of the host nation.
3. The Organizer provides, free of charge, coffee, tea and soft drinks for the players, principals and accredited media.
Pairings
Pairings are done according to the officially recommended FIDE pairing system for Swiss events.
Time control
1. The games are played using the electronic clocks and boards approved by FIDE.
2. The time control for each game is: 100 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 50 minutes the next 20 moves, followed by 15 minutes for the rest of the game, with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move 1.
2018 Dramatic finish…
After one win a piece, Arkadij Naditsch and Radek Wojtaszek go to one final armageddon game. Wojtaszek has White and 5 minutes while Naiditsch has Black and 4 minutes, but Wojtaszek must win to secure the additional prize money and title!
Major……….. Saturday 12 October to Friday 18 October 2019, 7 rounds, starting 3.00pm daily, approximate 5 hour.
This is a FIDE rated event.
Eligibility:
FIDE rating of 2100 and below on the October 2019 rating list, subject to a maximum of 35 players.
Venue: Comis Hotel and Golf Resort, Mount Murray Road, Santon, Isle of Man IM4 2HT. The Major and Minor will be held in the golf club function room, about a 3 minute walk from the main hotel. There will be a free bus service from Douglas promenade to the Comis hotel before and after play, plus a regular mini-bus service throughout the day.
Entry fee: £30
The entry fee will be reduced by 50% for Chess.com Diamond Members, on condition that they have Diamond membership both at the date of entry and at the date of the first round of the tournament. Please quote your Chess.com username in the relevant field of the entry form.
Prize fund GBP 5,000:
1st £1,300; 2nd £850; 3rd £650; 4th £500; 5th £400; 6th £300; 7th £200; 8th £150
